PUBLIC RELATIONS DISTRIBUTION SOURCES
PR Newswire
These guys are the biggest name in the PR distribution service industry. They are generally also the most expensive and require a 'membership' in order to use their service. A 400 word national press release can cost $680.00 and $185.00 for each additional 100 words. The cost for a 400 word press release with a photograph jumps to $1,325.00. Regional distributions can lower the cost. If you don't need a national distribution, search for PR Newswire partners such as WebWire which offers a 15 percent discount.
Business Wire
In 2007, this company was acquired by Warren Buffet's Hathaway Berkshire company. Business Wire typically costs about 10 percent less than PR Newswire. A US national 400 word distribution costs about $625.00 (discounts may apply). for Business Wire also teams with Vocus/PRWeb to power their Enhanced Online News Text optimization tool. Because of Business Wire's exclusive agreements with IDG and other technology syndications, Business Wire can make a lot of sense for technology companies.
Marketwire
Marketwire charges about $460.00 for a 400 word national press release and $150.00 for each additional 100 words. There is a $50.00 fee for an additional photograph, a $75.00 fee for SEO enhancements and a $75.00 fee for each audio/video link.
PRWeb
PRWeb is an email distribution service, not a wire service. Distributions are forwarded to journalists, bloggers and interested parties who subscribe and declare preferences for receipts. Distributions are also delivered to websites that subscribe to PRWeb feeds. The basic service starts at $80.00 per press release. There is an additional $200.00 fee for their SEO visibility service and a $100.00 fee for a four to five minute podcast interview option conducted by a PRWeb staff person.
Free Distribution
There are some free alternatives such as openPR.com and PRlog.com. While these no cost destinations are generally crawled by Google News, they also make their money by displaying Google AdSense ads which may then display competitor offerings near your press release.
